Hey Curly Heads! This weeks interesting topic is about saving curls from one to day the next, while trying to keep them fresh and as frizz-less as possible (tough I know!). I am still in the process of perfecting the methods I have come across thus far, but this is all about trial and error! In my research on "saving" or preserving curly hair for the next day (not needing to wash it daily BECAUSE this is no bueno for any hair ESPECIALLY CURLS!) Because we have naturally dry hair we have to do as much as possible to keep it as moist as it can get. DRY HAIR = BREAKAGE. My most recent discovery in the curl preservation phenomenon is SILK! I have bought a silk pillow case (Silk caps are great also). I will go into detail about silk pillowcases/caps in a moment. So our focus is keep the curls intact and fresh for "tomorrow" without having to wash the hair to reshape it. In my trial I have been putting oil in my hair before I go to bed and putting my hair in a SCRUNCHY(do not tie it tight or use elastics because it will leave a "dent" in the hair and cause breakage as well), we want a loose tie in a HIGH ponytail so that we are not rolling all over the hair in our sleep. The pony tail may look silly placed on top of your head but your going to bed anyhow! Now here is where the silk comes in handy, if you prefer a silk cap over the pillowcase, now is the time to place the cap on your head to enclose your high ponytail. If you are for the pillowcase (as I am), this is just as good as a cap. I use the pillowcase because the cotton pillowcases tear at the hair during the movement we make in our sleep and it also drains the moisture from hair, with silk your hair is simply sliding around on the pillow and not breaking apart in anyway. Another method I have heard of from our "surprise guest" it putting the hair back in a pun, I wouldn't advise to pull into a tight bun for the purpose of avoiding misshaping the curls you worked so hard to perfect!
If anyone has any other methods they prefer to preserve curls don't be shy to share! We all need to know!
Now time for our surprise guest! As I mentioned before I LOVE to know others methods and I also try them myself to see if they work for my own hair. We all have different hair types and not everything will work for our hair that might work for someone elses (keep that in mind! Don't become frustrated!) Be a guest!
Taciana Ash is the first guest of B's Curly Trials and Tribulations and wants to share her curly hair preparation methods! The products she used were:
- Sally's Shine hair gloss
- Tresame Conditioner (any)
- Moroccan Oil
- A Comb (A curly heads favorite tool!)
Her procedure was as follows: First she washed her hair and conditioned it, but didn't wash it out (leave in conditioner). Then after a while she rinsed out her hair and dried with a t-shirt(Very important and smart! SIDEBAR: It is better to use a T-shirt to dry curly hair as a towel is rough and tears at the hair and creates frizz, while a T-shirt is smoother and doesn't cause tear!) After drying the hair she applied the hair shine and combed through the hair. She finished by applying the Moroccan oil through the whole head (Hopefully with her fingertips LOL!).
Here is a photo of her final product!
Okay that is all I have for you this week! Be my guests and Tell me your methods regardless if it goes with the topic of that week! Preserve those curls!
